So, to leave off form what I mentioned last week….we went to the NY Utica Zoo!! Have of the exhibits were closed and there was only like 5 people there, but hey! It was only $4 and no crowds, so ya can’t beat that! It was a pretty cute zoo and we had fun. These two ostrich’s were totally following Sister Thao when we were walking by the fence, acting as if she was their prey…she kept going back and forth and they were just following her, it was hilarious…we’re pretty sure that they wanted to eat her. And then the donkey there was hee-hawing like crazy. It was great. Anyways….
We’ve had a pretty good week! Alieanna, the girl we’re teaching, is planning on getting baptized the day after her birthday in January! So, we’ll be preparing for that…she is so awesome. We see this one member at this rehab center…her name is Daisy and she is the SWEETEST old lady ever. We’ve been meeting up with Douglas and he is so cool. When we met up with him and second time he asked if we had any literature with us and we said that we did! We gave him a Book of Mormon and just tow days after seeing him, he was already into a few chapters! He said that he has enjoyed it so far and that he wants to come to church, which is awesome.
Anyway, we had some crazy things happen to us where is one old lady was cursing us and said that she was a saint and could save us and this guy on the phone who accused us to be Pagan worshipers…thus is the mission life. It’s pretty funny…but no need to dwell on those things!
We started volunteering at a Presbyterian Nursing Home! We helped wheel some of the old folks to go and play bingo. I sat with this one woman and she kept trying to drink the bingo chips! I had to keep on reminding her that it wasn’t a drink like 5 times…but she was super sweet. I was hoping she would win, but maybe next time! 😉 We’re going to go there once or twice a week and help out, which I’m excited about! It’s a pretty nice place and all the people there are so sweet. We also went to this Interfaith meeting where a few people form different denominations come together in a spirit of unity and respect. It was cool! Everyone had a booth and talked about how we help serve others! It was neat. We are hoping to look for some service opps on thanksgiving! Ah man…I can’t believe Thanksgiving is this week!! So crazy…but great. People are already going full out with Christmas decor though since the beginning of November…I guess their thankful for Christmas. Haha, but for real, I love Christmas too so I;m not mad….haha. Here’s an awesome Thanksgiving scripture that I love:
“…live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.” Alma 34:38
Isn’t that a great one? It’s to not only be applied this week, but ‘daily’! Our Heavenly Father has given us so much…I’m sure His heart rejoices when we give thanks to Him in all things, just as our hearts would when we give a gift to someone. Being thankful makes us a more happier person. I love this one quote that my mission president sent to all the missionaries by President Joseph F. Smith:
The grateful man sees so much in the world to be thankful for, and with him the good outweighs the evil. Love overpowers jealousy, and light drives darkness out of his life. Pride destroys our gratitude and sets up selfishness in its place. How much happier we are in the presence of a grateful and loving soul, and how careful we should be to cultivate, through the medium of a prayerful life, a thankful attitude toward God and man!
Such an awesome quote. If you want to read the talk it comes from, here’s the link!! It’s called “Living in Thanksgiving Daily” https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/joseph-b-wirthlin_live-thanksgiving-daily/
Well, I hope you all have such a great week and I love you so much! Have a Happy Thanksgiving week with your loved ones! 🙂
Love, Sister Pange
