Hello!!! Man, I feel like I just e-mailed! The weeks go by fast. Well, it is a winter wonderland, lemme tell you. It’s the best. Sister Baylon is loving it, this is her first time living in snow besides visiting it. So we are loving it together. Wednesday we had the dump of it and today it’s dumping even more. SO fun.
Our week was good! Alieanna’s baptism is this Saturday and we are all so excited. We have her program planned out and Sister Baylon and I are going to sing! Maybe I’ll record it and send it to you all….anyways, it will be such a special day 🙂 Heather is seriously a new woman. She hasn’t been smoking the past week and she expressed to us of how she knows she needs to come back to church and how she really wants to be the best person she can be. It was an amazing visit. We are so proud of her. We got Daisy her strawberry milkshake! That was fun. We saw Flavia ❤ Kevin is doing great and has been reading the Book of Mormon! We saw some fo our other peeps and nate the great is back from the Philippines!!! We did some service at the library, the Presb home, and Emmaus House. I love doing service. It’s great. Dang…I’m being vague again haha sorry!
Oh, two days ago, we got the cops called on us. We’re pretty sure it was an older lady who called them. We knocked on her door and she opened her curtain and was talking to us through the window which isn’t the best thing because she couldn’t hear a thing we were saying. That happens a lot when we tract haha…anyways, after trying to talk to her and her rejecting us, we kept walking and trying a few other houses. A little while later, a police car came. It was super awkward because the cops pulled right up and started talking to us right when we knocked on another door and the man answered…he was so confused…the policeman said to him, “Don’t worry, they’re just doing missionary work.” He asked to see our ID and wrote it down. Probably for future reference if anyone called on us again….haha so yeah, people are pretty scared of us I guess (; if only they knew that we have the best message ever! Anyways, I got my first cop story on the mission! We’ve had threats before, but this was the real deal. Good stuff.
So Olivia is a member in the ward. She is 22 years old and has two girls who are absolutely adorable…we saw her last Thursday and she said how she was giving a talk in sacrament meeting about keeping the Sabbath Day holy and that she was pretty nervous about it! We read Ether 12 with her. She enjoyed it and it helped her to calm her fears of speaking in public. We told her how excited we were to hear her speak! And then, we got a text message just a few hours after seeing her saying that someone was sick and needed one of us to give a talk in Sacrament meeting. So I guess that was a prep for me, because man, I am not the best speaker! the lord helps us in our weaknesses thought 🙂 But it was a great topic about “feasting upon the words of Christ”. I have truly gained a stronger testimony since being on my mission of reading the scriptures and really “feasting” on them. Before coming out on my mission, I was more incline to “snack” on the words of Christ because of all the other things I put as a priority. But just as our body hungers and becomes malnourished, our spirit and intellect will become malnourished if we don’t feed it with prayer, scripture study, going to church, and all the other commandments. Heavenly Father has given us these precious records for our spiritual benefit and growth. And they will fill our souls and help us in all aspects of our lives…just as Sister Tartakoff said in the Potsdam branch, “Scripture feasting is fat-free and good for you!” That is the best part of scripture feasting! Your physical health will not become effected by it at all and you can delight in fatness spiritually! So great. I love this scripture in 2 Nephi 31:20:
“Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.”
Do you see that? The only way to obtain eternal life is to feast on the words of Christ. Not ‘snack’, not sometimes read, not casually look at, but FEAST! Heavenly Father has laid out what He wants us to do and who He wants us to become through the Bible and Book of Mormon and all His holy scriptures. And ultimately, we will be able to know Him and our Savior, Jesus Christ, more fully. We will be able to recognize who They are and what Their voice is not just in the next life, but in this life. Isn’t that the best thing ever?! I am by no means perfect at feasting on the words of Christ, but I have gained a perfect brightness of hope that I can become better at doing it little by little each day.
Ok, I just need to rant and rave about the coolest news EVER. My brother, Chris Pange, is planning to go on a mission. AHH!!!! I am seriously the happiest clam ever. He’s seriously going to be amazing. Words can’t even express the bursting I feel inside…he will be the best missionary ever. EVER.
So yeah, everything is swell. I’m going to try to write down the fun little things that happen during the week, because those are the best. It’s all about the little things. And when big things come, those are great too. 🙂 I am just so grateful for this wonderful mission and the conversion I am having to Jesus Christ and His gospel…for the love I feel for Him and Heavenly Father and having the privilege to serve His people here in New York…to come to know and love them. It’s amazing.
I love you all!! Have a happy week!!!
Love, Sister Pange
