Hello! So, I wanted to let you all know that if any of you have questions about what I do n’stuff, let me know!! I’m sure there’s some things that I talk about that may seem unfamiliar or even just wanting to know why or what the heck I’m doing is something I’d love to answer. So yeah, just wanted to throw that out there! 🙂
Great week! Livin’ the mission dream. It’s not ideal and miraculous each waking moment, but my heart is so full of gratitude for the blessings that come endlessly…I just need to remember that always! One of the members, Daisy, that we see in Heritage Home usually always says in her prayers,”Heavenly Father, we know you didn’t have to wake us up this morning, but you did and we’re thankful for it.” It really is such a blessing to be alive and being sustained by our Heavenly Father in everything we do…whether it’s something He wants us to do or not. And that’s a merciful miracle! It reminds me of the scripture in Mosiah 2:21-24 when King Benjamin gives his amazing sermon:
“I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants. And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you. And now, in the first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are indebted unto him. And secondly, he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have ye to boast?”
Crazy, powerful, awesome scripture right there!! Sorry that was long, but so good!! Giving all the glory to Him is the only way to do it…it’s just amazing how much He truly blesses when we keep His commandments. He loves us so much and wants to bless is beyond what we anticipate when we do what’s right and good. It’s been amazing to witness the people I serve here feel an amazing difference when they do scripture study and prayers daily, or when they repent. These things truly set us free and blessings come down from our loving Father in heaven.
Anyways, Daisy is amazing. She’s from Alabama and is 87 years old (she doesn’t look it though!)…I’m pretty sure I’ve talked about her before…she is so strong in her faith. She’s having a difficult time living at this nursing home/hospital. Most of the nurses don’t care for her physical needs such as bathing and helping her to the bathroom and stuff…it is so sad! And they pretend like she’s crazy, but she really isn’t. Things that we take for granted all the time….I can’t imagine. We had a tender moment with her yesterday…we brought some flowers from the Bishop and after we offered a prayer for her, we looked at her and she had tears rolling down and said, “If there’s anything I know for certain is that I’m loved by you two.” It was the sweetest, saddest thing ever! We know that she is loved by SO MANY people…she’s the kind of person that you’d go to to pick up your spirits and feel loved…she’s amazing. Only a little over a year ago, she was making homemade fried chicken and apple pies for the missionaries and those around her…it must be so so hard for her to be like this now. We hope her situation gets better soon or that she’ll move to a better place. We love our Daisy!!!
Tyesha, Shea, and Prince are just hilarious…We love these people! We took a few photos with them….it was great 🙂 Sister Baylon and I made a little scripture calendar for Shea to help her get going on daily reading for her! We try and find ways to be creative in this work…makes us and the people we give it to happy 🙂
We had an awesome lesson with Silva and Margarita…Sister Gamboa was there to help translate again. We asked if they’d be baptized March 19th and they said yes!! We are excited for them. The dad is back in Columbia but I think he’ll be back in a few weeks…we told him to go check out the church and meet missionaries there! We hope he does! 🙂 Anyways, amazing family…Silvia says that she loves reading the BOM and that she loves the spirit she feels when she’s with us. Sister Baylon and I want to write down our favorite scriptures in Spanish for her…she’s awesome. We are excited to keep meeting with them! Kevin is doing great!! We had an awesome lessons with him and the Fuhriman’s…he enjoys reading the BOM and told us how he was first pretty skeptical when he first started reading and that his heart was hardened at the beginning, just like how many of the people are in the scriptures, but that he’s had a change of heart gradually since he’s read and met with us…that he is really reading it to come to closer to Christ. So cool!!
I think it was last Thursday, we had an up and down day where we had some amazing spiritual experiences and then we got dropped with disappointments and sad things…doesn’t that sound like life?! It was pretty interesting and almost humorous to see how up and down it got, but the Lord truly prepared me for that day in my personal and companionship study…really specific things of how to react to the situations that occurred that day and in the future. There really is strength and power in reading and studying the scriptures and words of the prophets…I am so grateful to the Lord that He’s given us these things to help us bring peace and understanding in the times of confusion and adversity.
So there’s a few things! 🙂 I’m grateful to be here and all that I’m learning!! I love you all and hope you have an amazing week!!!
Love, Sister Pange
