I can’t even believe how fast time flies out here!!! I’ve been out for a little over 8 months!! Ew. More motivation to savor each day of being a missionary…it’s the best!!! Anyway hi fam!
‘Twas a good week. Alieanna is going strong! Every time we see her, she seems to have a new spiritual experience….so awesome. She says that she’s truly felt a difference in all aspects of her life, feels more control over the little things and that her days seem to go super smooth when she says her prayers in the morning and she gets so much more out of her scripture study! She says that she’s kind of sad that she’s done with the book of Alma because it was so high adventure, but she’s looking forward to when Christ comes to visit the people in 3 Nephi 🙂 Her uncle started to live with her family and he has a near death experience a couple of weeks ago…Alieanna invited him to come to church and he was so excited to go! But something happened…(I’ll tell ya later) Anyway, Alieanna came out teaching with us Saturday and we had an amazing lesson with Tim. We hadn’t been able to get in a lesson with him in a month! We had a heart to heart and he really wants to become closer to God. He says that he’s always had God in his heart and worshiped him there, but he’s felt that it isn’t enough…that he wants to feel the love and light of Christ that he sees in us. He said his first step would be coming to church and he was committed to come! Before, he was pretty hesitant, but he was determined! So, we texted the van driver (who picks up people for church who don;t have a vehicle) the name and addresses of the people (including Tim, Alieanna and her uncle, and Sister Utera and her fiance). We were so pumped and excited to see them at church yesterday! The van pulled up…no show. We just thought….”Aw, they chickened or something must have come up.” At the end of church, we checked our phone and all three of them were asking where the van was and Tim left a voicemail saying,”…I guess you forgot me…” I WAS SO SAD. We went to find the driver and he was in the van and we told him he forgot the people…he said he didn’t get the text but he looked back and found our message…meeeh. He wasn’t having a very good day though…bless his heart. Anyway, super sad, but we brougham cookies over to each of them and they were very forgiving…I just felt bummed for a bit because they were so excited and set to come. Plus, all the church meetings were so awesome and great! A phrase I’ve been saying for quite awhile now to get me through setbacks is,”Everything happens for a reason!” Which is SO hard to say when the bigger setbacks happen….test of faith and diligence on our part and the people who wanted to come….everything does happen for a reason!
We saw Kevin a couple of times, he’s so awesome! We talked about genealogy and familysearch.org. He’s doing awesome…he loves the Book of Mormon and is almost up to Alma! Heck, he might already be in Alma when we see him tonight! Prince is good…hearing the 13 year old drama is so funny…but at that time in your life, it’s so real and weighs on ya! Haha…Tyesha is great. Planning her baptism to be the 19th this month! We saw Mark and had a great lesson with him! We read Alma 32 with him….good stuff right there. Silvia and Margarita are doing good! I think they’re a little hesitant to come to church since there’s no Spanish service…but they are seriously so humble and sweet…we wrote some of our favorite scriptures in Spanish for them 🙂 we sent a referral to the missionaries in Colmubia to go see the dad, so hopefully he’ll be able to be taught by them and go to church!
We helped Sister Gamboa pack her apartment on Saturday and there was this Christian background music station playing and at point, the radio guy for it says “God’s not asking if you’re capable, but if you’re willing.” Such a true statement!! It reminds me of this one quote by Benny Goodman that Sister Baylon shared with me that says, “Whatever you do, don’t stop. Just keep on going. Because one way or the other, if you want to find reasons why you shouldn’t keep on, you’ll find ’em. The obstacles are all there; there are a mission of ‘e,. But if you want to do something, you do it anyways and handle the obstacles as they come.” And Elder Holland’s quote,“Don’t give up… Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. You keep your chin up. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come.”
Well, gots to get goin’, but go read Alma 29!!! One of the best!!! Here’s the link:[goog_1088080224] https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/29?lang=eng
